A Message from Steven D. Fulford, President:

Welcome to the Environmental Abatement Council of Ontario's (EACO's) website and thank you for visiting. Since the inception of this organization, EACO has strived to make the hazardous materials abatement industry a safer and better industry to work in. Our partnerships with the Toronto Construction Association and the Ontario Ministry of Labour have enabled EACO to be at the forefront of this exciting and rapidly changing industry.

Over the past several years, EACO has been involved with a number of industry changing initiatives including:

  • Version 2 of our Mould guideline has been finalized, posted and published - Version 2, 2010
  • The EACO Accidental release document finalized and published and presented at PM Expo in Dec 2009
  • The Ontario Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU) released the Hazardous Materials Worker Trade to the industry
  • EACO has established a Contractors committee and we are receiving great feedback on the work of the committee.

As we finish up 2010 and enter 2011 we anticipate another busy year for all of our members. Although the new asbestos building survey bubble is behind us, many of the contractors and consultants remain busy with on-going renovation and new construction work.

  • In 2010, we are looking at several new initiatives in our industry. We've recently established a new technical committee for vermiculite that will work with the Ontario Ministry of Labour on procedures for assessment and remediation of vermiculite in residential homes and in commercial construction. We've also established a strategic planning committee for the organization to look at the long term vision of the organization and develop a strategic plan.
  • We currently have five (5) technical committees (asbestos, lead, mould, PCB's and vermiculite) and four (4) administrative committees (Education, Membership, Marketing and Strategic Planning)

This year we have seen more of our clients adding EACO membership to their list of pre-qualifications for hazardous materials assessment and remediation work, demonstrating to the Industry that being a member of this organization matters.

We are proud of the level of expertise and professionalism that the EACO members bring to the industry along with your commitment to make this industry better.

Looking forward, EACO is planning a number of social events where our members can get together and discuss Industry events is a social setting. Stay tuned for more information on these events

As I complete my 2nd term as president of this organization I realize that this organization requires a great deal of volunteer support from the Board of Directors and from Mary Thorburn and Mary McBride of the Toronto Construction Association.

I look forward to continue expanding the organization into markets across Ontario. 2010/2011 will be a break-out year for this organization and we look forward to your participation and the participation of the other members in your firms to make this organization even more effective. Stay tuned for plans on expanding our committees and looking for involvement in the new direction of the organization.

Best regards,
Steven D. Fulford, President
